Danny Barnes is a very unique artist so we knew we wanted to do something different for his release. We worked with Danny and his label, ATO Records, to come up with a series of illustrations that were fun, creative and represented his vibe. Dave Matthews illustrated his last record so we wanted to continue that feel but introduce some color and texture. This record is called 'Rocket' but also available are an additional CD of solo banjo versions of the songs called 'Angel' and a casette tape of original demos of the tracks called 'Poison'. A fun concept for a very creative and talented artist.
Album Artwork
With the album artwork we really got to experiment with texture and color to make it all come to life. The goal was to keep everything sort of lo-fi but at the same time look professional. So in keeping the line work simple and playful we were able to be more creative with the execution. We also designed 'Poison' to be packaged as a casette tape...we like going old school.
Pre-Order Site
The pre-order website's main focus was Topspin integration. The site was heavily branded to go along with the album artwork and we included an 'Email for Media' widget and several options for buying the music using the Topspin platform. This way Danny could gain fans and their emails by giving away a song and also offer several variations to purchase like CD + Digital, Deluxe Package with all three records, etc. These types of pages work really well for artists wanting to spread the word and get some excitement behind their release before it hits shelves (or should we say before it hits the internet).
