Our New Website
Our New Website
January 10, 2012

With our new Nominee website we experimented and stretched ourselves in several new directions. Our previous site was a single page site that allowed visitors to view our work, learn a little about us and contact us if they desired. With our new site we didn't want it to do anything differently, just do it much better. So the main thing we decided to do is make the site responsive. Responsive web design is a growing trend that when done correctly allows a site to be optimized for viewing on the most popular screen resolutions which are mobile devices, tablets and desktops.
Before diving into this we had to ask ourselves "Does a responsive website make sense for what we are trying to accomplish with our site?". We answered this simply by asking the next question "What are we trying to accomplish?". This is easy, we want visitors to do one of three things when the visit our site. We want them to be able to see our work, get information about us, our culture and finally contact us just like our previous site, right? But again we knew it could be done better.
The next thing we had to do was realize that not all websites are necessarily best suited for this strategy. In some cases it does make more sense to have a separate mobile website. Given that the majority of our time is spent on our clients and not on ourselves we knew two sites would be too much to keep up with. Secondly, we knew that the amount of content would not be overwhelming because we only want our visitors to do three things when at our site.
It became pretty clear to us that a responsive site would work great as long as we could make it work with our Content Management System (CMS) of choice, Vae Platform in this case. Pretty quickly we realized we could do everything that we wished to with basic HTML, CSS, Javascript, Responsive Grid and the CMS (all mobile friendly and dynamic).
We're excited to say the Nominee site will look great on any device you are using to surf the web and we're looking forward to implementing this style of development into future client websites. Feel free to hit us up if you're interested in finding out more about our approach to responsive design and development.
